Firefox to Flock - read / write integration

The web browser for you and your friends.

I didn’t think I’d be moving away from Firefox so quickly … But I’ve discovered Flock! Flock is a manifestation of the read/write web, a browser that starts to properly integrate write tools with your favourite Web 2.0 sites.

First there’s the news feed feature and how it integrates into your blog. Each newsfeed message is provided with a blog link. Click on it and the ‘blog post’ window post up with the text of the post already in it.

Next there’s the blog post feature itself. A separate window (unlike the Performancing extension in Firefox). Usual tools included as well as a spell checker.

Then there’s the ’snippets’ feature. A small icon on the on the status bar gives you a multiple clipboard. Drag text, pictures etc into it while surfing. When you want to use them in your blog, drag them from there into your blog post window, and they are there, including a hyperlink to the source.

Then there’s integration with Flickr. Click on the ‘Photos’ button, and at the top of the browser window, your account photos appear, with a drop down menu for your friends and a search box to search eleswhere on Flickr. Again, drag a photo from this strip into your blog post window, and it’s there.

And of course Flock has other cool browser improvements, such as how it handles your bookmarks or the Mac OS X ’spotlight’ like search feature.

Flock is based on Firefox, so migration is dead easy and messages and standard features are familar.
