Press report on interactive whiteboards research concentrates on the negative
Yet again, press reports on the latest research into the use of interactive whiteboards prefer to concentrate on emphasising negative aspects rather than giving a balanced view. Apparently:
“… academics from London University’s Institute of Education raised doubts over the long-term benefits of using the equipment.”
When if fact the report states:
“The ability of the technology to adapt to existing pedagogy at this stage in the implementation cycle suggests that judging any distinctive contribution that IWBs can make to pupil learning will be a long-term process dependent on on-going exploration of what the technology can best be used for.”
The Telegraph article quotes,
” … Statistical analysis showed no impact on pupil performance in the first year in which departments were fully equipped.”
But fails to include the next sentence, which says:
“This is as we would expect at this stage in the policy-cycle.”
and so on, You can download the report here and draw your own conclusions.
The Telegraph, is of course no stranger to this type of skewed reporting, nor are others exempt.
