MBE for John
It’s pretty rare for an ICT educator to get an honour, but the recently retired Adviser on the Isle of Man, John Thornley, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honour’s list. I met John well over fifteen years ago when he regularly attended Naace conferences and alike, and it was just over ten years ago now that I was invited to take part in their annual CPD day which coincides with the TT races.
A thoughtful, independently minded and modest educator, John’s work on the Isle was often pioneering with projects such as a 1:1 laptop programme, island wide education wi-fi network, and back in 1998 a ‘computer bus’ which toured the island’s schools - its successor, the Manx Telecomputer Bus, still provides a service today.
Good luck John!
